Our program has always entailed offline as well as online aspects! Behind the scenes we conduct group and one on one workshops; have Direct to consumer events! Encourage designers to attend trade and sourcing events and are active in the Fashion Tech Space!
We believe (and have proven ) that technology can help alleviate global problems and we’re crazy, (uh bold enough) to attempt it! We aim to design interfaces and create solutions in the cloud that alleviate some of the vast amounts that independent creative businesses need to attend to! Integrating various services and options giving them the most efficient work console possible with modern technology!
K.I.S.S is not an option if it does not provide a solution!
We are also aware there exist untapped markets across the globe of local artist crafters and designers! A sector/force, whose cultures and traditions are a vital part of their expression, creativity and as such livelihood! While many are trained to serve Seventh Avenue and other commercial design sectors these choose, whether for love of their independence or cultural preservation, to incorporating the color and aesthetic of their culture! This often means operating as independent businesses!
In 2004/5 we began exploring CMS Platforms as tools to replace existing protocol via www.BrooklyngashionGallery.com.We started streaming Video in 2005/6 using Joomla! Over the last few years we explored solutions working with actual Designers!
In 2007 Designer and project lead Bonnie Sandy was challenged to take the program which had been with the explored with the members at 4w circle of Art and Enterprise and create a virtual extended program! DeMArketplace an online incubator “lab” was born! That simplified the process connecting offline and online activities with a fluidity that would allow designers and crafters greater control of their work!
Earlier this year in attempting to showcase global Black Fashion Former Brooklyn Designers now across the globe said simply “we need help, helping These communities” and the challenge of extending our off-line workshops using that very same technology was born! In the last six months with the help o f a few local designers we refined that process!
Starting August /September 2010 we take on the next phase in our goal to publication! In the earlier part of this year through, 28 Squared; we took on the challenge of helping local designers work of those challenges!
The need and call for assistance has been heard from designers, artist and crafters in Dubai, Senegal, Nigeria, UK, New York, France, Trinidad and Tobago, New Jersey and California! The full program is now defined as a scalable four part project . This Time we aim to stream Live!
Phase two focus
- Development of a web site that should better accommodate the needs of the sector
- Development of a manual and support material
- Development of a web series featuring Designer around the globe!
- development of virtual business and design workstation or protocol for creative entrepreneurs!
- Development of a sales platform for indie and bespoke designers
- Development of a Global Indie Fashion Platform and Collective
We have been working on these solutions since 2004/5, surviving many of the web apps we tested!
The manual that is currently being refined was first tested in 2006/7 at 4WCircle of Art and Enterprise! a creative enterprise incubator in Brooklyn’s Fort Green area! Essentially we have created a Fashion Entrepreneurs program that has been tested and is easily adapted! We hope to give live global workshops as well as create and explore trade and show presentations using video!
28 squared Web Seminar series:- An extension of the local seminars and support system we conduct! We’ve also added segments that augment the project including
- Video/ on Demand and Live
- Online community
- Intro’s -few truly understand the scope of fashion needs to do an overview~ Business is also changing and we’ve found that the dialogue and exchange helps in understanding teh scope!
- How to- instructional from Google to line-sheets
- Resources:-Fashion, Tech, Trade and production
- Real case studies
- Fashion First Aid (Fashion business help)
- New and emerging Concept in Business…
We have decided to use video and technology to combat the odds, Cut cost and deal with distance! However we are cognitive that this must be accessible and easily navigated by our “mom and pop” demographic!
We now have an opportunity to really explore connecting Offline and Online with 12 85 Fulton Street

“We” would not have reached this far nor been able even to attempt this without the help support and patience of supporters! 28 Squared.com has emerged as a cutting edge approach that uses technology to augment the 5c’s to create CHANGE and affect lives!
culture + creativity + collaboration + community + corporations = Commerce!
